cousins together

granny doone's 1979

Who knew when this photo was taken back in 1979 that my Granny would go onto have another 20 Grandchildren and 31 Great Grandchildren.

My Grandad had a huge influence on my life, there was no-one like him. One of my earliest memories of him was when I tried to run away from my grandparents home back to my Mum & Dad's. He let me pack up my furry nightdress case, and go out onto the street and start to thumb a ride home, after what seemed like forever he came up to me and asked me what I was doing? I told him I was trying to hitch a lift home, it was then he burst my bubble, he told me I was thumbing in the wrong direction and as I was only three I wasn't allowed to cross the road to thumb the right way, so I better come on back inside and have some tea and sweeties. I miss him every day.

wedding day

memories

this photo is one of my favourites from my childhood, Saturday night was always bath night. We got out hairs put into rollers so we'd have ringlets for mass the next day. On Thursdays when Mum took Granny for her shopping Granny always put a 3 pack of chocolate into her basket for us. We got this treat on Saturday nights after our bath while we watched TV, usually the Generation Game, Dukes of Hazard, A-team or Wonder Woman. Good times.

I've been feeling very nostalgic lately, not sure if its because I've hit 40 and realised life is flying by or if its to do with me doing the family tree and looking back through all the old photos, the memories and stories that go with them. This page is dedicated to an amazing woman - my grandmother Kathleen Moore, she had a hard life, but always had a smile and such a hearty laugh, she died so young, but I know she is with me everywhere I go and watches out for us all. She would be so proud of all of us. love you and miss you Granny xx
